Where we work
Working globally, acting locally: Transforming systems through local expertise and global networks.

Porticus has local offices in 14 locations around the world. Through our regional presence, country offices, and partners on the ground, we combine global insight with local action. This allows us to stay close to the issues—and to the people—who can make a meaningful difference.
Please note we do not accept unsolicited grant requests.
Regional work
Providing children and youth with the agency and skills to achieve their full potential
Porticus has been working in Africa for over four decades. From our base in Nairobi, we focus mainly on Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
We are driving African-led development by advancing philanthropy, sharing strategic knowledge, and nurturing inclusive ecosystems.
Our regional strategy focuses on five priorities: gender equity, capacity building, meaningful participation, innovative financing, and bold, context-driven social innovation. We work to identify solutions to social and environmental challenges that can benefit generations to come.
Narrowing the opportunity gap for marginalised communities
Although each country in Asia is unique, they face a set of common challenges. For instance, wealth disparity – while standards of living are rising for many in Asia, there are still large groups of people living in adversity. In almost every respect, these marginalised communities enjoy fewer opportunities, and our aim is to make a positive difference in their lives. Our distinctive profile as a networker and capacity builder gives us the platform to contribute to the debate and have a real impact.
We support programmes that tackle key social issues. From our offices in Malaysia, Bangladesh and India, we focus on programmes in Cambodia, Kuala Lumpur, India, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Addressing inequality and supporting vulnerable groups
Latin America is a richly diverse region, spanning 20 countries. Its people represent a wide range of heritages, languages, and vibrant cultural traditions. It is also a region of stark contrasts. Deep inequalities persist between the richest and poorest, and violence remains endemic. Disparities of gender, ethnicity, and race are compounded by a significant urban–rural divide. Deforestation and land degradation pose serious threats to the biodiversity and sustainability of the region.
Porticus has been active in the region for over 25 years. We work mainly in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico, designing projects and programmes with our partners that promote strategic philanthropy, civic engagement and climate justice.
Addressing existing and emerging issues
While Europe is a diverse continent, it faces many common challenges. Increased migration flows have exacerbated vulnerabilities in education and social security systems. The European Union provides a democratic framework that fosters joint advocacy and policy-making efforts to allow for common issues to be addressed holistically.
We work in country hubs across Europe: Belgium, Central and Eastern Europe, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom and Ireland. In addition to focusing on country specific priorities, each hub makes use of synergies, scaling and learning opportunities by sharing local expertise and networks to strengthen learning and cooperation.
Supporting inclusive, holistic, human rights-based approaches for change
Porticus has been working with partners in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region since 2008. Through long-term partnerships we work towards achieving systemic change to tackle the most pressing issues at the source.
Our priorities are tackling the big issues such as social cohesion, education, and civic engagement.
The MENA region is complex and dynamic. Through strong and meaningful partnerships, Porticus supports transformative organisations for lasting and sustainable solutions.
Taking a relational, strategic, hopeful, and pragmatic approach to systems change
Grounded in Catholic social teaching and guided by deep relationships and a commitment to building community, our work seeks to strengthen the fabric of belonging across systems and institutions strained by polarisation, inequity, and exclusion. We strive for lasting impact through deep listening, engaging multiple stakeholders, and working at the intersections of faith, civic life, and justice.
We partner to support leaders and communities reimagining how people come together across divides, how institutions uphold human dignity, and how best to foster a greater sense of agency. We aim to seed ideas, nurture collaboration, and catalyse change that endures beyond any single grant partnership. Our work takes place in Canada, Haiti, and the United States. In the region, we’re currently exploring how to build bridges, a sense of belonging and innovative housing solutions for groups most at risk of homelessness.
