In 2018, Argidius engaged Endeavor Insight to identify practical ideas to better support manufacturing companies in Guatemala using its research and business network mapping methodology.
Recommendations
This memorandum shares a number of recommendations for local and international decision-makers who wish to foster the growth of a productive business community in this industry, including:
- Decision-makers should prioritise hiring leaders from successful manufacturing companies in Guatemala, to support the future founders of light industry.
- Guatemala currently has more than 40 successful manufacturing companies with more than 100 employees, most of which are family businesses. However, almost no examples of these companies supporting future entrepreneurs were identified. There is a great opportunity to draw on the skills and experience of those who have already been successful
- Leaders can implement "quick win" strategies to address the challenges of fast-growing companies. For example, visits to the factories of the most successful companies allow other companies and their leadership to meet and learn from good management practices, as well as to build relationships between executives working in similar functional areas.
