Who we are
A philanthropic organisation that aims for a just and sustainable future where human dignity flourishes.
At Porticus, our work seeks to strengthen communities' resilience so that all people have ownership over their future and natural resources are used sustainably. We realise our objectives through our local presence and strong networks of partners, which include local and global NGOs, communities, people with lived experience, policymakers, and other funders.
Porticus does not raise funds or receive donations itself. We advise and supervise grants given by charitable foundations set up by the Brenninkmeijer family business owners. These include Clementia Verein, Stichting Benevolentia, Stiftung Auxilium and Good Energies Foundation.
Our roots
Since opening their first C&A store in 1841 in Sneek, the Netherlands, the Brenninkmeijer family business owners have nurtured a spirit of brotherhood and partnership, actively partaking in and contributing to the communities in which they live and work.
Porticus was established in 1995 to professionally coordinate and develop these philanthropic activities of the Brenninkmeijer family business owners.
Today, Porticus is part of Constanter, a charitable foundation in service of the common good founded by the Brenninkmeijer family business owners. Porticus advises and supports Constanter in developing and executing an essential part of its philanthropic strategy.
Our values
We believe that a just and sustainable world is possible for everyone. Our values – empathy, modesty, endurance and trust – inspire everything we do and are the bedrock of all our relationships.
Our philanthropic work has always been rooted in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching – serving the common good and promoting human dignity and social justice.
Our people and careers
